Midnight Youth (New Zealand)
Formed in early 2006, the band quickly gelled and wrote and recorded their first single Supernatural to critical acclaim. It topped the request shows on NZ music video stations C4 and Juice TV and led to the band receiving the Rock FM Scholarship to help them on their way to recording a follow-up song.
This came in the form of A New Day. The song was released at the beginning of April 2007 with the song making an immediate impact on television and radio. The track featured in C4's Top 40 for over a month and was nominated for 'Breakthrough Video of the Year' by Juice TV.
MY was selected by INXS as support for two of its New Zealand gigs in September of 2006. In fact, so impressed were they by MY's performance that they named the band one of the best supporting acts on the INXS Australasian tour.
The band scored another international opening slot in '07 with famed US band Ok Go before playing a part in the globally-covered vigil for World Aids Day in November of that year. They have also appeared on playbills with an array of Australasia's top acts such as Evermore, Opshop, Pluto and The Have.
2008 has started with bang for the young band, securing the opening slot for Incubus’ one-off Auckland show and they are set to begin recording their debut record in New York in April/May, which is set for release later in '08.
With Jeremy Redmore on vocals, Simon Oscroft on guitar, Matt Warman on bass and Aidan Bartlett on drums, Midnight Youth encompass the feeling of a rock band with well-crafted pop melodies and dancibility.
