The Padangs – Party Till You’re Dead

Do you like to have fun? Do you like to dance and Roll in good times? Drink merrily with your stylish friends while bathing in some of Malaysia’s finest music.

This is a modest track that sounds good without trying too hard. Cruisy vibes and the airy arrangement here makes this a nice prelude to the warmer months. Some ‘jungle’ dabblings at the bridge, but here’s hoping this stays an ‘ugly dancing’/navaho hat free zone in the future.

Gegey Tour 2011 at SCHRANK INV STAGE

Last night I went down to the Seventh Heaven Studio for Gegey Tour 2011 : SCHRANK INV STAGE.12 bands were playing today so it was a long, fun-filled day for those that arrived early.A bunch of great local bands were on early followed but some hot aussie bands afterwards.

Symbiotic In Theory got on stage very early and without any fuss got straight into playing and there were plenty of hardcore punks up the front giving as much shit to the band as the band was giving to the crowd. The music was loud, it was fast and it seemed that it was more of an attitude that fans appreciated than the lyrics or melody but it all seemed that it made the show more interesting than just an average band playing average songs.

Another local band was on next in Hurricane and there were just as many fans up close and personal cheering them on. There were a few moments where fans shouted out and the band shouted back in a bit of an angry way but the music did speak for itself. Hurricane have played enough gigs to strengthen their live sound to almost a point of perfection.

Shinto Katana were headlining the day and definitely deserved the honour. Rocking out the grounds straight away and getting everybody present jumping around, Shinto Katana proved they were one of the best live bands in Australia. Playing a bunch of songs from their debut album Cold Streets, the band were fantastic and only went from strength to strength. It was definitely a sight to be seen and a great way to end the evening.

Starstruck: Sheryl.

sherylstarstruck

Hello. Sorry I've been neglecting this site lately due to personal and work matter. I'd like to make it up by posting Starstruck again. This month we have the 2nd vocalist of An Honest Mistake, a band from Kuala Lumpur. Ever heard of them? They're a pop-punk/easycore band and they're pretty awesome.
There's no harm getting to know the 2nd vocalist before checking the band out, right? Let's hear it for Sheryl!

sheryl02

Q: Tell us your full name, nickname and position in the band.
A:
My full name is Sheryl Goh Shuehui, to most I’m just Sheryl, and I’m the co-vocalist in the band.

Q: What do you do for living?
A:
I live off my parents! I’m still studying :)

Q: Please state 5 songs that you've been listening to lately.
A:
Auburn – All About Him, Jayme Dee – Love Whiplash, A Day To Remember – If It Means A Lot To You, Colbie Caillat – I Do!, Jessie J – Price Tag

Q: When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?
A:
The band has been around for about 3 – 4 years, though I only joined a year ago.

Q: What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
A:
We’re something of pop punk, or Easycore, if you prefer to call it that!

Q: What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?
A:
Currently, we have regular weekly practice sessions during the weekend.

Q: What's your favorite place to go eat together? (with your bandmates)
A:
You’ll find us mostly at hawker stalls nearby wherever we’re jamming or gigging at the time!

Q: Which show that you've played has been your favorite so far?
A:
My personal favourite would be our most recent show, the Radio Demokratika launch @ Pekan Frinjan at Dataran Shah Alam on the 5th of March. Nothing beats a responsive crowd! That’s what entertainment really is about.

Q: Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Geoff Rickly or Ashton Kutcher?
A:
If I HAD to pick – Johnny Depp.

Q: What's your LEAST favorite part of being in a band?
A:
Saturday morning practice! I tend to oversleep.

Q: What was the first record you bought?
A:
Ryan Cabrera’s Take It All Away

Q: Name the last gig you went with your buddies.
A: The last gig we played; the Radio Demokratika launch.

Starstruck: Jo.

original_image

Wow it's been a while since I wrote something in this website. A million apology to The Boss for not being a good crew for the past few months. So how are you guys? Anything interesting to share with us? We've been in hiatus for a while due to Ramadhan (respect) and being busy planning a few things for you guys for the next 7-8 months.  Also, do check out Attack Apparel in Facebook for the new upcoming tees. It'll blow your mind!

Okay so, Starstruck, which is an end-of-the-month segment is rather dysfunctional lately due to some minor problems (which was me, and un replied questionnaires) is back with Jo of The Padangs. He's the frontman of this scream-your-lungs-out band from Kajang. These questions were asked last March so if the answers are not relevant today, do forgive me. Lets hear it for, Jo of The Padangs!jooo

Q: Tell us your full name, nickname and position in the band.
A: The name's Johann, everyone calls me Jo and I'm the vocalist in my band.

Q: Who came up with the band name?
A: Well me, ax and ridt came up with the name "The Padangs" and we thought that the name was gonna be a temporary name for our band but in the end we just stick to it because we get used to the name.

Q: What do you do for living?
A: Right now I'm studying in Multimedia University and I'm taking Creative Multimedia. I'll be majoring Film and Animation when I'm in degree, right now I'm doing foundation.

Q: What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
A: I like to say that we're Metalcore / screamo I think.
My major influences will be The Devil Wears Prada, they're the beast!!

Q: When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?
A: It was middle 2006. Back then there was me, Adry, Ax and Ridt. We started as a normal jamming band and we were doing it for fun. Then we started to enjoy playing music with each other and started to write music and play shows.

Q:What can you tell me about your instruments? (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever's available? What made you choose the instruments you have now? Was it cost or was it a style/model/brand/color preference?
A: Instruments? I don't play any of them. I just sing and I don't care what brand the mic is as long as it's not smelly haha.

Q: What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?
A: We rehears once a week and it's always every Thursday or Friday, and we rehears only if there's shows in that week. But sometimes we rehears just to make it tighter and try to make it better.

Q: What's your favorite place to go eat together? (with your bandmates)
A: Ayza!! No place else haha.

Q: Which show that you've played has been your favorite so far?
A: It was Carpathian Isolation Tour, we opened for them. It was amazing, the crowds were insane!!

Q: What's your favorite part of being in a band?
A: Touring with friends

Q: What's your LEAST favorite part?
A: Late night jamming

Q: Hayley Williams, Katy Perry or Hannah Tan?
A: Katy Perry of course!!

Q: Imagine you’re watching a concert and one of the band members spontaneously combusts. You get called to the stage to replace that band member. Who’s the band?
A: The Devil Wears Prada. I really want to sing with them.

Q: Strangest venue or gig you’ve ever played?
A: I think it was KL Live? We played there for prom night and we were the only band that screams haha.

Q: Honestly, do you think about Gegey Music?
A: Gegey Music has opened many doors for us and they really helps promoting our band and not just our band, other bands as well. I'm really proud and honored to be a part of Gegey Music. Thank you so much. Without Gegey music, we wouldn't got this far.
